I have a Schwinn model DX900. Can I replace the petals on the DX900 with these? Do they have the same threads?

Q:
do these pedals come as a pair or individually purchased. Do they replace the existing pedal or do they connect to the existing pedal. If they are sold individually is it advisable to purchase just one as my husband has an artificial leg and the foot keeps slipping off the pedal, but I also use the bike and wonder if just one pedal would be uncomfortable.
