I bought my Airdyne in 1990. During the first 5 years of ownership, I rode it approximately 11 miles per day without any problems. I recently started using it again after approximately 15 years of it sitting in my Houston, TX garage. Even wtih all of the heat it has been subjected to, the unit performed like the day I stopped using it 15 years earlier. I have used it now for about 7 months and am back up to an average of 8 miles per day. I am simply amazed that it has not needed any repairs or adjustments.

Comments about Schwinn Airdyne Exercise Bike:
Bought mine about 10 years ago after using one at work and the local YMCA. I have been very pleased about the excersise but not about the reliability. Specifically, the way the crank is designed is poor. It loosens over time and is difficult to replace. Also, the adjustments for the chains are inconvenient and unreliable. I've had to replace the crank once and have had a chain pop off while excercising a number of times. I try to be careful when using it (never stand on the pedals, etc.) and am not a 'peadl smasher,' but have still had these problems. When it's working, it's great. Hopefull the new AD2 will address these problems and be more reliable.

Comments about Schwinn Airdyne Exercise Bike:
I had this bike delivered all set up by my local dealer, money well spent. I normally use this bike hard for 15 min/hr at about a 10cal/min clip.
I work in a 30-40 min session in there for endurance training. A great weight loss tool as I've dropped 30# in the last year. Just bought a conventional bike for the spring and sure it will be a breeze. It is a little noisy and when I really kick it up it sounds like a jet engine spooling up but for me I get a kick out of it.

Comments about Schwinn Airdyne Exercise Bike:
I have over 33 thousand miles on mine. Wore out a set of pedals. The riveted sprocket has been welded after coming apart. The chain has tightened somewhat over the years giving a better workout than designed for. I'm 76 and thanks to 25 years on this hamster wheel my health is beyond excellent in every possible way.

10 minutes and you'll get it -- 30 minutes and you'll really get it. Just hopping on for a spin for a few minutes instead of cruising the fridge A little loud, but it's worth it. Easy on my knees, gives both upper and lower body workout

Comments about Schwinn Airdyne Exercise Bike:
Received 10-20-11. Well packaged. All parts as advertised without defects. Hope to use several times daily. Took me 3 hours to assemble. Be sure to download assembly instructions from schwinn.com as ones inside box were poor. All assembly was routine except for computer. Recommend loosely attaching computer arms to computer B4 attaching other end of computer arms to frame. Tighten down computer module screws AFTER assembling arms to frame. Airdyne AD4 is everything nice which you have read about here and elsewhere. Built like a tank, obvious quality throughout, and should provide many years of problem free use. After prolonged use during the past 2 days, the Airdyne functions superbly. Highly recommend this uniquely built bike to young and old alike. Seat is okay and adjusts for people tall (I'm 6'6", but will handle up to 7 footers) and short (probably no shorter than 5'6" without requiring a small stool to mount seat). Enjoy.

Comments about Schwinn Airdyne Exercise Bike:
Although the Airdyne is very loud, this is because of it's design - I gave it 5 stars because how loud it is has no effect whatsoever on how great a machine it is. I hate exercising - I will never own a treadmill, but the airdyne is great for me

Q:
Can I use it as a spinning bike? Specifically can I stand upright while pedaling (position 2) and hunched-over (position 3)? Will the handle bars move if I am just pedaling (not working out my upper body)?
Also, is the handle bar height adjustable?
Thanks.Asked on 3/28/2011 by Anonymous1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
The Schwinn Airdyne bike cannot be used as a spinning bike. Our handlebars are constantly moving and it would be hard to use them as support while standing in position 1 or 2.
Additionally, the handlebar height is not adjustable.Answered on 4/15/2011 by Rick from NLS_WHQ

CUSTOMER CARE
A:
Hello. Here are the instructions from the manual: "The timer utilizes a 1 1/2 volt, watch-type button battery. (LR44, A 76 or equivalent.). Using a phillips screwdriver, turn the battery cover located on the face of the timer 1/4 turn counterclockwise. Replace the battery with the negative (-) side facing down. Replace the battery cover by lining up the slots and tabs and turning 1/4 turn counterclockwise. The battery should last up to two years under normal use."Answered on 3/18/2011 by RC from Nautilus WHQ, Vancouver, WAA:
Hi Greg,
My bike is a bit older, but the battery compartment is underneath the control panel. Mine opens by pushing lightly on a protruding plastic piece and the battery module is easily removed. I hope yours is similar.
