I'd been shopping for an elliptical for a few weeks before deciding on the Schwinn 450. I wanted to keep it below $1,000 and there were several makes and models that I looked at online and also tested at a few local sporting goods stores.
I narrowed it down to Schwinn because their ellipticals seemed better made, sturdy and the price was right, too.
Here's a short video review to give you a better idea of why I decided on the Schwinn 450.

The machine is smooth when using it and the control panel is pretty easy to use.
The internal mechanism that makes the control panel useful is suspect. I had to have someone come and open the machine up to fix the problem, so the control panel would recognize the machine was in use.
After a few more weeks of running fine, the machine started to squeak and creak loudly. I had to call customer service and it was determined that I needed a new spinner/wheel (the main component).
I'm not sure if others have had similar problems, but it seems that there is a design flaw with the mechanism that tells the control panel the machine is in motion. Without that signal, the control panel only says to pedal faster and after 5 seconds will read "pause". You can still pedal and workout, but there is no way to see your calories, time, distance or to change your workout.
The fan on the machine is useless, because it does not blow directly on the rider; the rider has to maneuver themselves in a position to feel the air...

Wife and I use this to help our fitness levels and loose wieght. Very quiet and smooth operation. I use it very early in the morning without waking anyone in the house up. It took the both of us about an hour to set up and put together. Very sturdy construction. Does not have alot of "bells and whistles" but if you are serious about exercising then this is it. Great elliptical for the price.

I'm not really a "gym rat", but a health care worker that works 12Hr night shifts and this elliptical is the perfect compliment to my bowflex ultimate... I alternate the two on a daily routine and feel better at 40 yrs old that I did at 25, thanks....

Ordered the elliptical because I can no longer use the treadmill because of a knee injury. The delivery went smoothly. I had to call to see when the installers would come but that was cleared up with a couple of minutes. I am not sure about the communciation between the person I spoke to on the phone to confirm my installation date to the actual installers who showed up. Once they arrived, they were unaware of what was discussed regarding the relocation of the ellipical up four flights of steps. They were good about it and installed it in record time. Two problems so far - the sensor (that reads the calories, time, etc. stopped after every five seconds. A replacement sensore was FedEx'd and replaced however after replacement, the machine is now a little noisy. It could be because the machine was shifted a little (it was 98% on the mat and 2% on the carpet and it was quiet). I may move it back to see if the noise stops. Other than that it gives a great workout.

if your short like me 5' you cant feel the fan.the delivery was good men brought it in the house for me and took it out of box. they were to drop it off and leave it in driveway close to house . but they didn't . it was very nice of them .

I bought this elliptical to start a low impact weight loss program. I just hit 30 and decided that I really need to get in shape. I have to say that since I am a beginner the work out it sets for you is tough but I absolutely love this machine. It is easy to use and you fell the burn. And you will feel the full effects of the workout in the first five minutes of using it. It is a great product for beginners and advance users because it never runs out of intense workouts or levels. The product was easy to put together in just under about 2 hours with only one person.
